The play is taking up most of my time
연극 준비에 올인이다

As we get closer to opening night.
연극의 막이 오르는 날이 다가올수록

lots of lines to remember.
외워야 할 수많은 대사

long monologues where it’s just me talking.
나혼자 중얼대는 끝없는 독백들.

olivia had this great idea, though, and it’s helping.
올리비아가 멋진 아이디어를 떠올렸고, 덕분에 한숨을 돌린다.

i have my fiddle with me onstage and play it a bit while i’m talking.
무대 위에 내 바이올린을 가져가서 대사를 하는 동안 가끔 연주를 하는 거다.

it’s not written that way, 대본에는 없지만

But mr. Davenport thinks it adds an extra - folkly element to have the stage manager plucking on a fiddle.
데이븐포트 선생님은 무대감독이 바이올린을 연주하면 서민적인 분위기가 더 해질 것 같다고 반긴다.

I’ve gotten to know the kids in the show a lot better, 연극을 준비하면서 애들을 더 많이 알게 되었다
Especially the pink-haired girl who plays emily.
특히 에밀리 역을 맡은 분홍색 머리 여자애가 그렇다.

Turns out she’s not nearly as stuck-up as i thought she was,
나중에 알고보니 내가 생각했던 것만큼 건방지지 않았다
given the crowd she hangs out with.
같이 어울려 다니는 아이들만 봤을때는

Her boyfriemd’s this built jock who’s a big deal on the varsity sports circuit at school.
미란다의 남자친구는 체격 좋은 명물 선수로 학교 대표팀에서 뛰고 있다.

it’s a whole world that i have nothing to do with,
나와 전혀 상관이 없는 세계라서
so i’m kind of surprised that
깜짝 놀랐다.
this miranda girl turns out to be kind of nice.
미란다라는 여자애가 제법 괜찮다는 사실을 알고

for the tech guys to fix the main spotlight.
무대 기술자들이 주 조명을 손 보는 사이

odds of someone getting the same combination 0f syndromes that came together to make auggie’s face were like one in four million. 어기가 지닌 증후군들이 일제히 발생해서 다른 사람에게 어기와 같은 얼굴이 나올 확률은 4백만분의 1이라나.

so doesn’t that make the universe a giant lottery, then? 우주는 거대한 복권 뽑기 기계에 불과하다는 얘기가 아닌가?

then softer thoughts soothe, like a flatted third on a major chord.
그때 문득 기분 좋은 생각이 떠올라 마음을 위로해 준다.

abandon 버린

it takes care of its most fragile creations in ways we can’t see. 우주는 눈에 보이지 않는 방법으로 우주의 가장 연약한 창조물을 보살펴 준다.

Like with parents who adore you blindly.
맹목적으로 크나큰 사랑을 베푸는 너의 부모님.

and a big sister who feels guilty for being human over you. 평범한 사람이 된다는 것에 죄책감을 느끼는 누나.

And a little gravelly -voiced kid whose friends have left him over you. 너의 일로 친구들로부터 왕따를 당하는 걸걸한 목소리의 그 녀석.

and even a pink-haired girl who carries your picture in her wallet. 그리고 심지어 네 사진을 지갑 속에 지니고 다니는 그 분호 머리 여자애까지.

maybe it is a lottery, but the universe make it all even out in the end. 설령 복권 뽑기 기계일지라도 우주는 결국 모든 것을 공평하게 만들어준다.

The universe takes care of all its birds.
우주는 자신의 모든 새를 저버리지 않는다.
