What a piece of work is a man!
인간은 참으로 걸작품이 아닌가!

how noble in reason!
이성은 얼마나 고결하고

how infinite in faculty!
능력은 얼마나 무한하며,

in form and moving how express and admirable.  외양과 거동은 얼마나 경탄할 만하며,

in action how like an angel!
행동은 얼마나 천사 같고

in apprehension how like a god!
이해력은 얼마나 신 같은가!

North Pole

북극

The Spud Lamp was a big hit at the science fair.  감자 램프는 과학전시회에서 대성공을 거두었다.

Jack and I got an A for it.
잭과 나는 A를 받았다.

It was the first A Jack got in any class aoo year long, so he was psyched. 특히 잭은 일 년 동안 모든 수업을 통틀어 처음으로 받은 A라 완전히 흥분의 도가니다.

psyched [saɪkt] 흥분했다

back in Decemebr 지난 11월

except this time there were volcanoes and molecule dioramas on the tables instead of pyramids and pharaohs.
이번에는 피라미드와 파라오 대신 화산과 분자 모형들이 그 자리를 대신했다.

And instead of the kids taking our parents around to look at everybody else’s artifact, we had to stand by our tables while all the parents wandered around the room and came over to us one by one.
부모님을 모시고 다른 사람들의 작품을 보러 다니는 대신, 각자 자신의 작품 옆에 서 있으면 부모님들이 체육관을 돌아다니며 구경을 해야 했다.

Here’s the math on that one;
계산해보면 이렇다.

Sixty kids in the grade equals sixty sets of parents -
5학년생 60명은 곧 60세트의 부모님을 뜻한다.

So that’s minimum of one hundred and twenty pairs of eyes that find their way over to me.
그러니 최소한 120개의 눈이 나를 찾아온다는 계산이다.

it’s like how compass needles always point north, 어느 방향에 놓든지 나침반의 바늘이 항상 북쪽을 가리키는 것과 같은

no matter which way you’re facing.  이제는 내 얼굴에 적응한 아이들과 달리 내 모습에 전혀 익숙하지 않은 눈들이

All those eyes are compasses, and I’m like the North Pole to them. 모두의 눈이 나침반이라면 나는 그들에게 북극인 셈이다.

Thanksgiving Sharing Festival;
추수 감사절

that was the worst one, I think.
그때는 최악이었다.

Not only can I not sing at all, but if felt like I was on display. 원래 음치인데다 내가 마치 전시품이라도 된 듯한 기분이었다.

It was like starting school all over again, having unsuspecting adults pass me on the stairway. 아무것도 모르는 어른들과 불쑥불쑥 계단에서 마주치게 되니 새학기로 되돌아간 기분이었다.

Like I’ve said a gazillion times:
내가 (엄청나게)누누이  말했던 것처럼

i’m used to that by now.
나는 이제 익숙하다.

I don’t let it bother me.
그런 건 아무것도 아니다.

It’s like when you go outside and it’s drizzling a little.  외출을 하고 보니 이슬비가 부슬부슬 내리는 정도라고나 할까.

the drizzle becomes like this total hurricane.
이슬비는 어마어마한 허리케인으로 변한다.

hang out my table a lot, 내 테이블 주위를 서성인다.

it’s kind of funny how parents actually end up forming the same little groups their kids form.
부모님들도 아이들을 따라 끼리끼리 어울리는 모습을 보면 참 우습다.
